Hello and welcome to Little Sunshine Kids and our first blog post!
We are an online children's store which is run from our home in Adelaide, South Australia. Our main aim is to source beautiful, quality and environmentally friendly children's products such as cloth nappies, wooden toys, educational and open ended resources and more, and share them with like minded parents all around Australia.
My name is Kristy and I'm the main mama running Little Sunshine Kids. I'm also boy mama to Lenny, 3 years and Alby, 2 years old. Things are pretty busy around here but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Little Sunshine Kids came to life in 2019 not long after Alby was born, but the seed was planted long before, all the way back in 2017 when I was pregnant with Lenny and began planning life with a baby in the house.
I realised that lots of the more readily available baby and children's products were so focused on convenience, that a huge 'throw away' industry had been created which was having a HUGE impact on our planet! So I began researching more sustainable ways to raise a family and soon fell down the rabbit hole of cloth nappies, which I am still using today and very passionate about.
As Lenny grew I began to research age appropriate toys for him to play with and explore and soon found this was also an area filled with cheap, throw away plastic items that are readily available, but not really very beneficial to our children, let alone kind to our planet. I recall researching for hours what types of toys and resources aided in developing gross and fine motor skills, imagination and creativity, problem solving skills and more but were also developed and made with love and purpose, AND wouldn't end up in landfill for hundreds of years. I stumbled into the world of wooden toys and haven't looked back.
I also discovered the Montessori approach to learning and really resonated with raising the whole child, and the environment as the third teacher, and these things are at the heart of my learning through play philosophy. This is an area I am still learning a lot about and relates back to my early twenties when I studied a Bachelor of Education at the University of South Australia.
I've you've come this far, thank you! I would love to hear from you if you have any questions, comments, or anything at all really!
Thank you for visiting Little Sunshine Kids 😊
